Speakout is a comprehensive English course that helps adult learners gain confidence in all skills areas using authentic materials from the BBC. With its wide range of support material, it meets the diverse needs of learners in a variety of teaching situations and helps bridge the gap between the classroom and the real world.

Frances Eales is an experienced teacher, teacher trainer and materials writer who has worked in the UK, Hungary, Germany, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Hong Kong and Thailand. She is co-author of Cutting Edge Elementary, New Cutting Edge Elementary and other parts of the Cutting Edge series (Pearson). She is an author of Speakout, a new six-level general English course developed in conjunction with the BBC (Pearson). She also set up and wrote the British Council/International House Distance DELTA course for experienced teachers and works on the design and assessment of teaching and training exams for Cambridge ESOL. Frances has a particular interest in the use of video in the classroom, the development of speaking and listening skills, task-based learning, and distance learning. She is also fascinated by grammar and pronunciation. She now teaches and trains in Brighton, where her interests including hill-walking, singing and practising qi-gong in the garden every morning at six.
Steve Oakes is an experienced teacher, teacher trainer and trainer trainer who has worked in numerous countries around the world including the UK, the US, Japan and South Africa as well as various parts of Central Europe,. He has been the Head of Teacher Training at International House, Budapest since 1997.
